Master of Science in Engineering Education

About the Program

The M.S. in Engineering Education brings two colleges together to administer a joint degree program. Students who have a degree (or equivalent hours of coursework) in engineering (or related field) are eligible to enroll in the program, which will equip them to engage in a variety of roles: engineering higher education adviser, community college instructor, engineering outreach services director, or entrepreneurship. Additionally, the M.S. in Engineering Education prepares students to continue to a Ph. D. in Engineering in preparation for becoming departmental engineering faculty, either teaching or research. The coursework is delivered on campus and offered simultaneously online, both synchronous and asynchronous.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have the following:

  1. a four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university in engineering or other calculus-based degree that requires a minimum of 3 semesters of calculus and 2 semesters of physics
    • Exceptions to standard accreditation may be granted for applicants with international degrees, including applicants with three-year degrees from institutions in Europe participating in the Bologna Process.
  2. A GPA of at least 2.8 (on a 4.00 scale) in their undergraduate degrees
  3. For international students only: a score of at least 18 on each section of the TOEFL test or at least 6.5 on each section of the IELTS test

Continuous Enrollment and Time Limits

After students are admitted to the Graduate School and enroll for the first time, they are required to maintain continuous enrollment. This mandates that students enroll each Fall and Spring semester, excluding Summer terms, until they graduate. Failure to maintain continuous enrollment results in termination of academic program. Exceptions to this policy may be granted in special circumstances by the Graduate School. Read more on the continuous enrollment policy here.

Students must complete all requirements for the master’s degree within six calendar years. The student’s degree clock for time to completion starts with the first course approved for inclusion in the plan of work or the date of admission to the program, whichever comes first. The time limit remains at six years even if a student was on approved leave of absence during the six-year period. Read more on the time limit policy here.
