Dr. Julio E. Terán (he/him) is a Lecturer and Academic Advisor in the Engineering First Year Program within the College of Engineering at NC State University. He holds a PhD in Polymer Science (2023) from NC State University, a Master’s degree in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry) from the University of Bordeaux in France, and an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. With a rich background in engineering education, Dr. Terán has designed and taught courses in both Ecuador and the USA. His work in the Engineering First Year program includes leading and implementing large-scale, internally and externally funded educational projects. His primary research focuses on two areas: the development of semi-empirical models for polymer repurposing and reutilization, and integrating sustainability concepts into fundamental engineering courses, which includes developing assessments for open education and open access activities for undergraduate engineering students.
