Dr. Tameshia Baldwin is an Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Engineering at NC State University. Dr. Baldwin teaches undergraduate courses in the First-Year Engineering Program and in the Technology, Engineering and Design Education program area within the College of Education. Her research and engagement efforts are centered on broadening participation in engineering. Driven by the belief that a successful engineering career begins long before college, she has led high-impact projects designed to foster STEM identity and self-efficacy in K-12 students.

Most recently, she served as the Principal Investigator on a NSF-ITEST grant titled, “Developing STEM Identity in Rural Audiences through Community-based Engineering Design” (Award #1949454). Through this initiative, Dr. Baldwin collaborated with a rural North Carolina school district and local industry partners to co-develop a STEM elective course for middle school students focused on engineering design within advanced manufacturing. This project has achieved significant regional impact, with over 700 middle school students participating in the course and seven educators receiving specialized training to sustain the curriculum.

In addition to her work in middle schools, Dr. Baldwin previously developed an informal STEM research program for high school students specifically designed to bolster their confidence and interest in pursuing STEM degrees. By thoughtfully aligning engineering education scholarship with extension and engagement, Dr. Baldwin is creating vital pathways that make engineering an accessible and attainable reality for all students.
